Electrical service infrastructure assessed by Stewart Electrical Group before partner-coordinated network-side work

    Coordinated Network Connection Work

Level 2 Electrical Services in Sydney, Sutherland Shire & St George

Level 2 electrical work concerns the service lines and connection equipment between an electricity distribution network and a property. It can be required when a supply is installed, altered, disconnected, reconnected or repaired. Because this work interfaces directly with the network, it cannot be treated as ordinary household wiring and must be completed by people holding the appropriate accreditation and network authorisation.

01 / When You Need This

Situations that call for a coordinated assessment.

The pages below explain the most common scopes. A single project may involve more than one, particularly during a renovation or supply-capacity upgrade.

    01

    Private power poles

Installation or replacement of privately owned poles and associated property service arrangements. The site, pole position, access, clearances and supply route all need to be checked before excavation or electrical work is scheduled.

    02

    Underground and overhead mains

New, replacement or relocated service mains where a renovation, storm event, damaged cable, tree strike or changed property layout affects the route between the network and the point of connection.

    03

    Three-phase supply upgrades

Capacity planning for EV charging, ducted air conditioning, pools, workshops or other substantial loads. Stewart handles installation-side assessment and switchboard work while the partner completes approved network-side alterations.

    04

    Disconnect and reconnect

Planned isolation for renovations, demolition, meter relocation, pool construction, granny flats or major switchboard work, followed by testing and reconnection after the agreed work is ready.

    05

    Point-of-attachment repairs

Assessment and repair coordination for loose, damaged, corroded or poorly located attachment hardware, including problems caused by storms, falling branches, building movement or facade changes.

    06

    Emergency network-side work

Coordination when a damaged service line, point of attachment or related supply equipment presents an urgent concern. Network hazards must first be reported to the relevant distributor and avoided.

    07

    Moving an electric meter box

A detailed guide to the approvals, customer-side alterations, network-side tasks and metering coordination that may be involved when a meter position changes.

    03 / The Process

A clear handover between Stewart and the accredited partner.

A coordinated job keeps the installation work, applications, partner attendance and reconnection in the correct order.

    01

    Responsibility: Stewart Electrical Group

    Initial discussion and site assessment

We review the reason for the work, existing supply, switchboard, proposed loads, building plans and access. The network area and likely Level 2 scope are identified, with further investigation noted where equipment or routes are concealed.

    02

    Responsibility: Stewart Electrical Group

    Scope and responsibility schedule

The quotation separates Stewart's customer-side work, the accredited partner's network-side work and any third-party civil, metering or building tasks. Allowances and confirmation items remain visible.

    03

    Responsibility: Accredited Level 2 partner

    Network application and service planning

The partner confirms the applicable accreditation class, distributor requirements and service arrangement, then lodges or supports the required network application and notification steps. The written scope confirms which party prepares and lodges each required application or notification before work is booked.

    04

    Responsibility: Stewart Electrical Group

    Customer-side preparation

Switchboard, consumer mains on the installation side, earthing and related circuits are prepared to the agreed stage. Work is sequenced so the property is ready when the network-side attendance occurs.

    05

    Responsibility: Accredited Level 2 partner

    Network-side work and reconnection

The partner isolates, connects, repairs or alters the service equipment within the authorised scope, performs required tests and completes the relevant service-work notification.

    06

Responsibility: Stewart Electrical Group and accredited partner

    Testing, records and handover

Both work scopes are checked before supply is returned. Stewart provides customer-side compliance documentation where required, and the partner completes the applicable network paperwork. The written scope identifies which party provides each applicable completion record.

    04 / Safety & Compliance

Licensed customer-side work and accredited network-side work.

In NSW, network-side service work must be completed by a provider holding the appropriate Level 2 accreditation and authorisation for the relevant distribution network. Stewart Electrical Group does not hold itself out as that provider and does not complete the accredited network-side portion.

Customer-side fixed wiring remains licensed electrical work. It is designed, installed and tested against applicable NSW requirements and relevant provisions of AS/NZS 3000. A CCEW is completed for work that requires one through the current NSW process.

Service work may require an approved connection application and a Notification of Service Work or network equivalent. The accredited partner is responsible for the service-work obligations within its authorised scope. The accepted scope identifies the applicable records and which party supplies each document at handover.

Sealed equipment, network assets and service conductors must not be opened, moved or repaired by an owner or an electrician without the required accreditation and authorisation. If a hazard involves network equipment, keep clear and contact the distributor.

    05 / Local Conditions

Sutherland Shire and St George properties need site-specific planning.

The Sutherland Shire includes detached brick homes, steep sites, battle-axe blocks, coastal properties and houses extended across several decades. Overhead supplies remain common in some streets, while newer subdivisions and redevelopments may use underground services. Access from the street to the connection point can materially affect the method.

St George contains dense established suburbs, duplexes, apartments and narrow lots where service routes, shared access and strata property require careful identification. Facade renovations and new upper levels can also change clearances around existing overhead attachments.

Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy boundaries do not follow a single council boundary. The property address and existing network information are checked before an application route or technical requirement is assumed.

Our local pages for Kirrawee, Sutherland, Gymea, Miranda, Caringbah, Cronulla, Sylvania and Taren Point provide more detail about the properties and access conditions we encounter across the area.

    07 / Frequently Asked Questions

Level 2 electrical services questions, answered.

Is Stewart Electrical Group a Level 2 accredited provider?

No. Stewart assesses, quotes, completes customer-side electrical and switchboard work, and coordinates the project. Network-side Level 2 work is carried out by an appropriately accredited and authorised partner.

Why can’t an ordinary licensed electrician do every part?

A contractor licence covers electrical installation work, but direct work on specified service lines and network connection equipment requires separate Level 2 accreditation and network authorisation.

Which electricity network covers my property?

Properties in the service area may be supplied by Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy. We check the address and existing connection before planning the application and partner requirements.

Will I need to contact the distributor myself?

That depends on the job and network process. We map the required contacts and coordinate the electrical scope, while some account-holder approvals or retailer steps may still need your direct authority.

Can customer-side and network-side work happen together?

Often they can be sequenced on the same day, but only after approvals, materials, metering and each party's attendance are confirmed. More complex projects may require staged visits.

    What paperwork should I receive?

Customer-side installation work may require a CCEW. Network-side service work has separate notification or completion records. The exact documents depend on the scope and network. The accepted scope lists the records applicable to the job and the party responsible for each one.

Can you provide a price without a site visit?

Photos and plans can help with early guidance, but pole condition, cable routes, clearances, board condition and network requirements often need an on-site assessment before a reliable quote.
