Only one light per room
If every room relies on a single centre fitting with no dimming or layering, the space will always feel flat. Adding wall lights, pendants or downlights gives you options for both function and mood.

Residential Lighting Services
Good lighting changes how a home feels and how it works. Stewart Electrical Group installs indoor and outdoor lighting for homes and small businesses across the Sutherland Shire and St George area, from a single pendant over a kitchen island to a full lighting plan for a new build or renovation.

01 / Signs You Need This
Lighting usually needs attention when a room is difficult to use, fittings are unreliable, or renovation plans change where light is needed.
If every room relies on a single centre fitting with no dimming or layering, the space will always feel flat. Adding wall lights, pendants or downlights gives you options for both function and mood.
Lights that flicker, hum or buzz can point to a loose connection, an ageing dimmer, or a fitting that isn't matched to its switch. Left alone, this can wear out globes and switches faster than normal.
A renovation is the easiest time to plan lighting properly, before walls and ceilings are closed up. Circuits, switch positions and fitting types are far simpler to change while the space is already open.
Driveways, side paths and back decks without adequate lighting are a trip hazard after dark and make coming home at night less pleasant. Outdoor lighting improves both safety and how the home presents.
Old fluorescent battens, yellowed diffusers and dated brass fittings tend to stand out in an otherwise updated home. Replacing them is a straightforward way to modernise a room without a full renovation.
If you're building or extending, lighting needs to be planned alongside the electrical rough-in. Getting circuit positions and switch locations right early avoids costly changes later in the build.
02 / What's Included
The installation is planned around room use, fitting requirements, switching, ceiling access and the capacity of existing circuits.
Installation of pendant lights, chandeliers and statement fittings over kitchen islands, dining tables and entryways, including fittings supplied by you or sourced through us.
Planning and installing downlight layouts, LED strip lighting under cabinetry or along stairs, and cove lighting for a layered, modern finish.
Fitting wall sconces, reading lights and picture lights, along with dimmer switches so you can adjust light levels through the day and evening.
Installation of weatherproof outdoor fittings for entertaining areas, driveways, garden beds and pathways, wired to a dedicated switch or timer.
New circuits added where an existing layout can't support additional fittings, including new switch positions and wiring run through ceiling and wall cavities.
Set-up of smart switches, dimmers and app-controlled lighting scenes for those who want more control over their home's lighting from a phone or voice assistant.
03 / How the Job Works
Positions and controls are agreed before cutting or cabling, then every altered circuit is tested at completion.
We talk through what you're trying to achieve, whether that's a full lighting plan for a renovation or a handful of new fittings, and what fittings you already have or are considering.
Our electrician visits the property to look at existing circuits, ceiling access, switch positions and any structural factors that affect where lighting can go.
You receive a clear, itemised quote covering labour and any materials we're supplying, so there's no ambiguity before work starts.
We book a time that suits your household, including staged work if the lighting job is part of a larger renovation timeline.
Our team carries out the wiring and fitting installation, keeping dust and disruption to a minimum and protecting floors and furnishings while we work.
Every circuit and fitting is tested before we finish, and we issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) covering the completed job.
04 / Safety & Compliance
All lighting installation work is carried out by licensed electricians in line with NSW electrical safety requirements. On completion of the job, we issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW), which documents that the work has been tested and meets the applicable standards. This certificate should be kept with your property records.
05 / Exclusions & Limitations
The quote distinguishes electrical installation from decorative fitting supply and building finishes.
Supply of designer or custom light fittings, unless arranged with us in advance
Structural or carpentry work such as ceiling patching, cornice repair or plastering
Painting or touch-up work around new switch plates or fittings
Ceiling insulation removal or reinstatement beyond what's needed to run cabling
Smart home hub configuration unrelated to the lighting circuits installed
06 / Local Knowledge
Housing across the Sutherland Shire and St George area ranges from older brick homes in suburbs like Sylvania, Oyster Bay and Kogarah through to newer builds and townhouses in areas such as Miranda, Woolooware and Hurstville. Each type of property brings its own lighting considerations, and our electricians are familiar with both.
In older single-storey homes, ceiling cavities are often generous and easy to access, which makes adding new lighting circuits or downlight layouts relatively straightforward. Many of these homes still have a single central light per room, so even a modest upgrade with wall lights and dimmers can make a noticeable difference.
In areas with duplexes, townhouses and newer apartments closer to the water, such as around Cronulla, Sans Souci and Sandringham, ceiling access can be tighter and shared walls or party structures need to be considered when running new cabling. We plan lighting work around these constraints so the finish is clean and the disruption to the rest of the home is kept to a minimum.
We also see a steady flow of renovation work through the Shire and St George, particularly kitchen and bathroom updates, where lighting is planned in alongside new cabinetry and tiling. Coordinating with your builder or renovation timeline early helps avoid rework and keeps the electrical scope aligned with the rest of the project.
