01 / Signs You Need This

When to arrange ceiling fan installation.

A new or replacement fan should be considered when comfort is poor, an existing unit is unstable, or the mounting point was never designed for a moving load.

    01

No ceiling fan in a hot room

Bedrooms and living rooms that face west or get strong afternoon sun often benefit the most from a ceiling fan, especially where air conditioning isn't practical or is only used sparingly.

    02

An old fan that wobbles or makes noise

A wobbling fan usually points to a mounting bracket that isn't rated for the fan's weight or movement, or blades that have gone out of balance over time. This is worth addressing before it causes further wear.

    03

A fan connected without proper support

Some ceiling fans are installed onto a standard light fitting point rather than a fan-rated bracket. This isn't suitable for the ongoing movement and weight of a fan and should be corrected.

    04

Wanting a fan in an outdoor entertaining area

Alfresco areas, verandahs and covered patios are popular spots for a fan in this climate, but they need a fan and fitting rated for outdoor or damp locations rather than a standard indoor unit.

    05

Replacing a dated fan during a renovation

Older fans with dated finishes or light kits often stand out once the rest of a room has been updated. Renovations are a convenient time to replace them alongside other electrical work.

    06

A room with no ceiling wiring for a fan

Some rooms, particularly in older homes, were never wired for anything heavier than a light fitting. Adding a fan here means running new cabling and installing appropriate ceiling support.

    02 / What's Included

A considered scope, based on the property.

We assess support, wiring, controls, blade sweep and the environment before confirming the installation method.

    01

    New ceiling fan installation

Supply (if requested) and installation of ceiling fans in bedrooms, living areas and other indoor rooms, including fan-rated bracket installation where needed.

    02

    Outdoor and alfresco fan installation

Installation of outdoor-rated ceiling fans for verandahs, patios and alfresco areas, wired to a dedicated switch and installed to suit exposed or semi-exposed locations.

    03

    Old fan replacement

Removal and disposal of an existing ceiling fan, with inspection of the mounting point and wiring before the new fan is installed.

    04

    Fan and light combination units

Installation of ceiling fans with integrated lighting, wired so the light and fan can be controlled separately from a wall switch or remote.

    05

    Remote and app-controlled fans

Set-up of remote-controlled or app-controlled ceiling fans, including wall-mounted remote receivers where requested.

    06

    New wiring for fan additions

Where a room doesn't already have suitable wiring or ceiling support for a fan, we run new cabling and install a fan-rated mounting point as part of the job.

03 / How the Job Works

From the first conversation to certification.

The fan and location are checked together so support and clearances can be resolved before installation day.

    01

    Initial enquiry

You tell us how many fans you need installed, where, and whether you already have fans on hand or need advice on suitable models for the space.

    02

    Site assessment

Our electrician checks the ceiling structure, existing wiring and switch positions to confirm what's needed for a safe, stable installation.

    03

    Written quote

We provide a clear quote covering labour, any new wiring or bracket work required, and fan supply if you'd like us to arrange it.

    04

    Scheduling

We book a time that suits you, and for outdoor fan installations we factor in any additional bracket or weatherproofing work.

    05

    Installation

The fan is mounted, wired and balanced, with switches or remote receivers connected and tested for correct operation before we finish up.

    06

    Testing and certification

The completed installation is tested, and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is issued to confirm the work meets the applicable requirements.

    04 / Safety & Compliance

Electrical work completed properly in NSW.

Ceiling fan installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician, particularly where new wiring or a fan-rated mounting point is required, given the additional load and movement compared to a standard light fitting. On completion, we issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW), which should be kept with your property records.

    05 / Exclusions & Limitations

What the service does not automatically include.

Structural strengthening and ceiling finishes are separate unless they are specifically allowed for in the quote.

    Separate trade work

Supply of ceiling fans unless specifically arranged with us as part of the job

    Finishes and making good

Structural work such as strengthening roof trusses beyond installing a standard fan-rated bracket

    Specialist approvals

Patching or painting of the ceiling around a new or relocated fan point

    Unrelated defects

Repairs to pre-existing ceiling damage unrelated to the fan installation

    Additional equipment

Ongoing balancing or maintenance of the fan once installed, beyond the initial installation and testing

    06 / Local Knowledge

Sutherland Shire and St George homes are not all wired alike.

The Sutherland Shire and St George area sees warm, humid conditions through summer, and ceiling fans are a common and practical addition to bedrooms, living areas and outdoor spaces throughout the region. From older weatherboard and brick homes in suburbs like Sylvania and Kogarah through to newer builds around Miranda and Woolooware, we've installed fans in a wide range of ceiling types and ages.

Many established homes in the area have pitched tile or metal roofs with reasonable ceiling access, which makes it straightforward to install a fan-rated bracket and run new wiring where an existing light point isn't suitable. Where a home has cathedral or raked ceilings, we take extra care with fan positioning and blade clearance during the site assessment.

Outdoor entertaining is a big part of life across the Shire and St George, with many homes featuring alfresco areas, covered patios and verandahs that benefit from an outdoor-rated ceiling fan. These installations need fittings designed for exposure to moisture and weather, and we select and install accordingly rather than fitting a standard indoor fan in an outdoor space.

For townhouses and units closer to the coast, such as around Cronulla and Sans Souci, ceiling heights and access can be more limited, so we talk through fan size and mounting options during the initial assessment to make sure the chosen fan suits the space properly.

    08 / Frequently Asked Questions

    Ceiling fan installation questions, answered.

Can I install a ceiling fan where a light fitting currently is?

Sometimes, but the mounting point needs to be checked first. A standard light fitting point usually isn't rated for the weight and movement of a fan, so we may need to install a fan-rated bracket before fitting the fan.

Do you install outdoor ceiling fans?

Yes, we install outdoor-rated ceiling fans for alfresco areas, patios and verandahs, using fittings suited to exposure and damp conditions.

Can I supply my own ceiling fan for you to install?

Yes, many clients purchase their own fan and we install it. We can also advise on suitable fan types and sizes for your space if you haven't purchased one yet.

How do I know if my ceiling can support a fan?

This depends on the existing mounting point and ceiling structure, which we check during the site assessment. Where the existing point isn't suitable, we install an appropriate fan-rated bracket.

Can a ceiling fan be controlled with a remote or app?

Yes, many fans come with remote control options and some support app control. We install and set up the receiver and switching required for these options.

Will I get a compliance certificate for the fan installation?

Yes. Every ceiling fan installation is tested on completion and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is issued for your records.
