Old or deteriorated cable
Brittle rubber, fabric-covered conductors or damaged insulation found at fittings can indicate wider deterioration. Accessible samples and test results help establish whether replacement should be local or broader.

Residential Electrical Services
Home rewiring is considered when cable insulation has deteriorated, circuits no longer support modern use, an older property is being opened for renovation, or testing reveals defects spread across the installation. It may involve the entire home or a defined area such as an original rear section, kitchen or extension.

01 / Signs You Need This
Age alone does not prove a home needs a full rewire, but these observations justify an electrical assessment and testing.
Brittle rubber, fabric-covered conductors or damaged insulation found at fittings can indicate wider deterioration. Accessible samples and test results help establish whether replacement should be local or broader.
An old fuse board can signal that circuits predate modern safety arrangements. The board, earthing and cable condition need to be assessed together rather than upgrading one component in isolation.
Heavy reliance on adaptors and extension leads often reflects a layout designed for a different era. A rewire can separate major loads and place outlets where they are actually needed.
Multiple issues across unrelated rooms may point to ageing cabling, poor historic alterations or connections that require more than isolated accessory replacement.
A renovation provides practical access to replace wiring and add circuits before new plaster, joinery and finishes are installed. Planning early reduces later cutting and rework.
Homes extended in stages may have mixed cable, unclear junctions and incomplete labels. An inspection establishes what is present before a safe replacement scope is prepared.
02 / What's Included
The scope is tailored to the condition of the installation and the building program, not treated as a simple cable-for-cable exchange.
We identify circuits, protective devices, accessible cable types, earthing and likely routes. Findings determine whether a full rewire or targeted replacement is justified.
Lighting, general power and fixed appliances are planned around room use, expected loads and furniture or joinery layouts, with allowance for future needs discussed during design.
Approved cable, switches, outlets and connection equipment are installed using practical routes through roof, wall or subfloor spaces while limiting unnecessary disturbance.
New circuits require suitable circuit breakers and RCD protection. Any switchboard work is scoped from the existing board condition and available capacity.
For renovations, cabling is installed before linings close, then fittings are connected after finishes and joinery are ready. Occupied-home projects can be divided into agreed stages.
Circuits are verified, labelled and tested before energisation. Required CCEW documentation is completed and circuit information is handed over at completion.
03 / How the Job Works
A rewire is managed as a small project, with decisions and access agreed before walls or circuits are disturbed.
We inspect the board and representative points, discuss known faults and record renovation plans, critical equipment and areas that must remain available.
Test results, cable condition and access are used to identify what must be replaced and what can remain. Exclusions and assumptions are written into the quote.
We map circuits, switch and outlet positions, access points, shutdowns and coordination with plasterers, carpenters or cabinetmakers.
Old sections are safely disconnected and new cable is installed in stages. Temporary arrangements are discussed where the home remains occupied.
Switches, outlets, lights, appliances and protective devices are connected, with the board schedule updated to reflect the finished installation.
Mandatory electrical tests are completed before handover. Required defects are addressed, a CCEW is issued and operating information is provided.
04 / Safety & Compliance
Rewiring is licensed electrical work and must comply with NSW law and applicable requirements of AS/NZS 3000. New and altered circuits are tested before energisation and documented through the CCEW process where required.
Network-side changes are not performed as ordinary rewiring. If supply capacity or distributor equipment needs alteration, we coordinate that component with an accredited Level 2 partner.
05 / Exclusions & Limitations
Clarifying related building tasks protects the program and avoids uncertainty about who restores finishes after electrical access.
Plastering, painting, tiling, joinery removal and other making-good are separate unless expressly included.
Asbestos or other hazardous-material testing and removal require qualified specialists.
Supply authority and network-side alterations are coordinated separately with accredited Level 2 partners.
Temporary accommodation, furniture storage and owner contents handling are not included.
Data, security, solar and automation systems are separate scopes unless shown in the accepted quote.
06 / Local Knowledge
Post-war brick veneer homes in Kirrawee, Sutherland, Gymea and Miranda may offer roof and subfloor routes, but renovated sections often contain concealed junctions from earlier work. Surveying each section avoids assuming the whole property was wired at once.
Solid masonry and older decorative interiors in parts of St George require careful route planning. Existing conduits may be reusable only after inspection, while some locations need surface solutions or coordinated wall access.
Duplexes and townhouses can limit access between levels and may involve shared walls or strata approvals. The scope should identify lot property, common property and approved working hours before work begins.
On renovation projects, early coordination with demolition and framing is usually the most efficient approach. Our suburb pages for Kirrawee, Sutherland, Gymea, Miranda, Caringbah, Cronulla, Sylvania and Taren Point provide more local detail.

08 / Frequently Asked Questions
No. Inspection and electrical testing are needed to determine cable condition and whether defects are isolated or widespread. A partial scope may be appropriate in some homes.
Sometimes, depending on the scope and safe separation of work areas. We discuss staged shutdowns, essential power and practical disruption before confirming the program.
Some access may be required, especially in solid masonry or inaccessible multi-storey areas. Existing roof and subfloor access is used where practical, and making-good responsibilities are identified in advance.
The board must be suitable for the new circuits and current protection requirements. Whether it needs full replacement or specific changes depends on its inspected condition and capacity.
Planning should begin before demolition. Rough-in occurs while framing and cavities are accessible, with fit-off after linings, cabinetry and finishes are ready.
Required CCEW documentation and an updated circuit schedule are supplied for completed electrical work. Product information is also handed over where relevant.
