Not enough outlets in a room
If a bedroom, living room or office only has one or two power points, you're likely relying on power boards stacked on power boards. Adding dedicated points spreads the load and reduces trip hazards from trailing cords.

Residential Electrical Services
Stewart Electrical Group installs new power points for homes and businesses across Sutherland Shire and St George. Whether you need an extra outlet in a bedroom, a bank of points behind a new kitchen bench, or outdoor power for a deck and shed, we assess the existing circuit before we start so the new point is loaded correctly rather than just squeezed onto whatever is nearest.

01 / Signs You Need This
Permanent extension leads, damaged outlets and changed room layouts are common reasons to assess power point quantity, location and circuit capacity.
If a bedroom, living room or office only has one or two power points, you're likely relying on power boards stacked on power boards. Adding dedicated points spreads the load and reduces trip hazards from trailing cords.
A power point that feels warm to touch, has scorch marks, or shows browning around the switch is a sign of a loose connection or overloading. This should be looked at rather than left, even if it still works.
New benchtops, appliances and vanities almost always change where power is needed. It's far easier to have points positioned correctly before tiling and cabinetry go in than to retrofit afterwards.
Many older Sutherland Shire and St George homes have little or no outdoor power. A weatherproof outdoor point makes life easier for gardening tools, outdoor entertaining, pressure washers and seasonal lighting.
Working from home usually means a monitor, laptop charger, desk lamp and other devices all plugging in at once. A dedicated double or quad point avoids relying on a single overloaded outlet.
Sheds, workshops and secondary dwellings often need their own circuit run from the main switchboard, sized correctly for tools, fridges or lighting rather than an extension lead run across the yard.
02 / What's Included
We consider the intended load, wall construction, access, outlet rating and existing circuit before selecting the installation approach.
We check your existing switchboard capacity and circuit layout before quoting, so the new point is added to a circuit that can handle it rather than the nearest available cable.
Single, double and quad general purpose outlets installed to match existing switch plates or updated to a new style throughout a room or the whole property.
Combined power point and USB charging outlets for bedside tables, kitchens and study areas, reducing the number of plug-in chargers cluttering a room.
IP-rated outdoor power points for patios, decks, carports and gardens, installed with weatherproof covers suited to coastal conditions common across the Shire.
Separate circuits for items such as ovens, air conditioners or workshop equipment, sized to the appliance rather than shared with general lighting or other outlets.
Every new point is tested for correct polarity, earthing and RCD protection. A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is provided where required by NSW regulations.
03 / How the Job Works
A clear scope avoids placing a new outlet on a circuit that cannot reasonably support its intended use.
Tell us what you need, how many points, where, and what they're for. We'll ask a few questions about the room and current setup to prepare for the site visit.
We inspect the switchboard, existing circuits and the proposed point locations, checking wall cavities and access before confirming what's possible.
You receive a clear quote covering the number of points, any circuit work required, and materials, so there are no surprises once work begins.
We run cabling, fit the new points and connect them to the appropriate circuit, working carefully around existing wall linings, tiling and cabinetry.
Each new point is tested for correct wiring, earthing and safety switch operation before we consider the job complete.
We issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) for the completed installation and walk you through anything relevant, such as circuit labelling changes.
04 / Safety & Compliance
Power point installation in NSW must be carried out by a licensed electrician and comply with the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000). This covers correct circuit loading, earthing, cable sizing and safety switch protection for the circuit the point is connected to.
On completion of eligible work, a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is lodged, which documents the completed electrical work.
If your project involves any changes to the network-side connection, such as increasing supply capacity, that component is coordinated with an accredited Level 2 service provider rather than carried out as standard electrical work.
05 / Exclusions & Limitations
Building finishes, appliances and network capacity changes remain separate unless expressly included.
Structural changes to walls, cavities or cabinetry required to run new cabling
Patching, painting or tiling around new points once installation is complete
Supply of specialty light fittings, appliances or smart home devices to be connected
Council or strata approvals for external or common property work, where applicable
Network-side supply upgrades, which require an accredited Level 2 provider
06 / Local Knowledge
Sutherland Shire and St George cover a wide mix of housing stock, from 1960s and 1970s brick veneer homes in Sylvania, Gymea and Miranda to older Federation and interwar homes around Hurstville, Kogarah and Oatley, alongside newer builds in areas like Woolooware and Cronulla. Each type presents different challenges when adding power points, and we tailor the approach accordingly.
Older brick veneer homes often have limited wall cavity access, meaning new points may need to be chased into brickwork or run externally with appropriate conduit and finish. Weatherboard and fibro homes common in parts of the Shire are usually more straightforward to work with, as cabling can often be run through wall cavities without major disruption.
Renovations are common across the region, particularly kitchen and bathroom updates in older St George properties and deck or outdoor entertaining additions in Sutherland Shire homes closer to the coast. Coastal exposure in suburbs like Cronulla, Woolooware and Kurnell also means outdoor points need proper weatherproof fittings to hold up against salt air over time.
For units and townhouses in busier areas such as Hurstville, Kogarah and Sutherland, adding power points often needs to work around shared walls, existing conduit runs and body corporate considerations, which we factor into the quote and scheduling.

08 / Frequently Asked Questions
In many cases yes, provided the circuit has capacity and isn't already fully loaded. We check this during the site assessment and will recommend a dedicated circuit if the existing one isn't suitable.
Standard internal power point installation generally doesn't require council approval. If your project is part of a larger renovation or extension, that broader work may have its own approval requirements separate from the electrical component.
Where possible we match existing switch plate styles and colours so new points blend in with the rest of the property. If an exact match isn't available, we'll let you know options before installation.
The time needed for a single point depends on circuit access, wall construction and testing. Multiple points, dedicated circuits or difficult wall access will take longer, which we'll outline in the quote.
Yes, a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is issued for eligible electrical work, including new power point installations, as required under NSW regulations.
Yes. We use appropriately rated weatherproof fittings for outdoor and coastal-exposed locations, which is particularly relevant for properties near Cronulla, Kurnell and other exposed Sutherland Shire suburbs.
