Old halogen downlights still installed
Halogen downlights run far hotter than LED equivalents and use more power. If your home still has the original halogen fittings, an LED upgrade is a practical improvement to consider.

Residential Lighting Services
LED downlights are a practical upgrade for many for homes across the Sutherland Shire and St George. They give a clean, modern finish, use less power than older halogen fittings, and can be laid out to suit how each room is actually used, rather than following a single fitting in the middle of the ceiling.

01 / Signs You Need This
An upgrade may be worthwhile when existing fittings run hot, fail often, produce uneven light or no longer suit a renovated space.
Halogen downlights run far hotter than LED equivalents and use more power. If your home still has the original halogen fittings, an LED upgrade is a practical improvement to consider.
If you're regularly replacing blown globes, particularly in a downlight layout, this points to fittings that are ageing or running hotter than they should. LED downlights typically need far less attention.
A downlight that feels noticeably hot around the rim can indicate poor ventilation or insulation contact, which is a safety concern worth having checked and addressed during an upgrade.
Mismatched globe colour temperatures from room to room, or even within the same room, make a home feel unfinished. LED downlights installed together give a consistent, even light throughout.
Kitchens and bathrooms benefit from a properly planned downlight layout that lights benchtops, mirrors and work areas rather than just the centre of the room. Renovations are the ideal time to get this right.
LED downlights use less energy than halogen fittings for a similar light output, which is one of the main reasons homeowners across the Shire and St George choose to upgrade.
02 / What's Included
Fitting selection, layout, drivers, dimmers, ceiling conditions and insulation are considered together rather than independently.
Replacement of all existing downlights throughout the home with LED fittings, matched for consistent colour temperature and brightness from room to room.
Targeted upgrades for a single room, such as a kitchen, living area or bedroom, where a full-home upgrade isn't needed right now.
Planning and installing new downlight positions for renovations, extensions or rooms that previously relied on a single centre light.
Installation of dimmable LED downlights and compatible dimmer switches, giving you control over brightness for different times of day.
Selection of appropriate fire-rated or insulation contact (IC) rated downlights where ceiling insulation is present, addressing a common safety issue in older halogen installations.
Installation of downlights rated for use in bathrooms and other wet areas, positioned to suit vanities, showers and mirrors.
03 / How the Job Works
We inspect the ceiling and existing circuit before confirming fitting type, quantity and placement.
You let us know roughly how many downlights you're looking at, whether it's a full-home upgrade or a single room, and any particular concerns such as old halogen fittings or insulation contact.
We inspect your ceiling space, existing wiring and insulation to confirm the right fitting type and layout, and to check for any access issues.
You receive an itemised quote covering the number of downlights, fitting type and labour, so the cost is clear before we schedule the job.
We arrange a time that works for your household, and for larger jobs we let you know roughly how long the installation will take.
Existing downlights are removed and disposed of, new LED downlights are fitted and wired, and switches or dimmers are installed or updated as needed.
Each circuit and fitting is tested for correct operation and safety, and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is issued for the completed installation.
04 / Safety & Compliance
LED downlight installation work is carried out by licensed electricians and must meet NSW electrical safety requirements, including correct fitting selection where ceiling insulation is present. Once the work is complete, we issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW), which confirms the work has been tested and should be retained with your property documentation.
05 / Exclusions & Limitations
Ceiling repairs and specialist decorative products are identified separately before work starts.
Removal or reinstallation of ceiling insulation beyond what's needed for the downlight fittings
Plastering, patching or painting of the ceiling around new or relocated downlights
Supply of decorative trims or fittings outside our standard downlight range, unless agreed in advance
Repairs to ceiling damage caused by pre-existing issues unrelated to the downlight installation
Smart lighting app or hub set-up beyond the switching and dimming installed as part of the job
06 / Local Knowledge
Homes across the Sutherland Shire and St George area were built across many different decades, and downlight requirements vary a good deal as a result. Older brick homes in suburbs such as Gymea, Sylvania and Kogarah were often fitted with halogen downlights during a previous renovation, and these are now well past the point where an LED upgrade makes sense on both safety and running cost grounds.
Ceiling access in these older homes tends to be reasonably straightforward, with pitched roof spaces that allow our electricians to work efficiently and check insulation contact as we go. This makes full-home downlight upgrades a practical option for many properties in the area.
In newer developments around Miranda, Woolooware and Hurstville, homes are more likely to already have LED downlights from construction, so the work we do here is often about extending a layout, adding dimmers, or replacing fittings that are starting to fail. Townhouses and units with flat or low-pitch ceilings sometimes need a different fitting profile, and we account for this during the site inspection.
Bathroom renovations are common throughout the Shire and St George, and downlights rated for wet areas are a standard inclusion in most of these jobs. We work alongside builders, bathroom renovators and homeowners managing their own project to make sure the electrical component fits the overall renovation timeline.

08 / Frequently Asked Questions
Most homeowners find LED downlights worthwhile because they run cooler, use less power and need far less maintenance than halogen fittings. They also give a more consistent light output across a room.

In most cases, yes. We use the existing downlight openings wherever possible and only cut new holes where a layout change is needed, which we discuss with you before starting.
Yes, provided the correct insulation contact (IC) rated fittings are used. We check your ceiling insulation during the site inspection and select fittings suited to that situation.
This depends on the size of the room, ceiling height and how the space is used. We work through this with you during the quote so the layout gives even coverage without overdoing it.
